Our Vision

Our Vision

The following five focal points represent the vision for our church for the next three to five years:

A.  Every Member A Minister

We challenge every member of our church to discover their spiritual gifts and find their ministry or ministries to which God has called them.  May we all be “in the ministry” of our Lord Jesus.

B.  Every Member A Missionary

We challenge every member to be “on mission” for Christ.  We challenge every member to not only initiate and be personally involved in mission projects here in our community, but also to take at least one mission trip at some point in their life.

C.  Ministry Focus:  Reaching Children

Boyd Baptist Church has a rich heritage of ministering to the children of our area.  As we prayerfully examined our current efforts to reach children, three things became evident:

  • In our modern-day society, children are growing up faster than ever.  Many children are facing issues that children in the previous generations did not face until much later in life.  We feel a since of urgency to intensify our efforts in reaching these children at a much younger age.
  • God is already working in a mighty way in our children’s ministry.  Our AWANA Ministry is evidence of God’s Hand on our children’s ministry.  No other church in Fannin County has developed a full-scale children’s ministry and we feel the time is right to greatly expand our efforts in this area.
  • Our best opportunity to break the generational curse many of our children are experiencing is at this young age.  We want to have a greater impact in reducing the number of sexually active High School students; thereby, reducing the number of teenage pregnancies.

In light of all this, we recommend to the church that we pursue calling a full-time Preschool/Children’s Minister that can lead us to more effectively impact the lives of children.

D.  Mission Focus:  Reaching Hispanics

One of the glaring facts we discovered is the rapidly growing number of Hispanics in our area.  We feel it is time for our church to launch an initiative to reach Hispanics.  In the course of this discussion, we felt as if God had already begun to open doors for our church to reach Hispanics.  Dr. Mike Gonzalez, Director of the Hispanic Initiative of the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention, came and spoke with us in order to help us determine the need to reach Hispanics in our area.  He confirmed what we had felt was the truth:  The growth of the Hispanic American population has exceeded even the boldest projections of demographic experts.

As we began to discuss the need to reach Hispanics, the following doors began to open:

  1. Bro. Randy Moore had noticed that many adult Hispanics needed a place to play soccer.  He had an initial conversation with Bro. Norman Lance about property that is adjacent to the Hispanic Mission.  It seems evident that soccer could be a definite connection to many Hispanics.
  2. Bro. Ronnie Coonrod had a conversation with one of his business contacts that is a member of a Hispanic church in the Sherman/Denison area.  This man was very interested in our efforts.  He also felt as though there were others who would be interested as well.
  3. Lissa Holly had a conversation with a Hispanic friend who is a former co-worker.  This lady and her husband are longing for Christian fellowship and Bible study.  He apparently has led Bible studies and preached in the past.
  4. Each one of these occurrences seemed to be a confirmation to us that God is at work in this area and timing is right for our church to launch a Hispanic Initiative.  Our committee also discussed the possibility of seeking a Preschool/Children’s Minister that is bilingual and could help facilitate our Hispanic Initiative.

E.  Repair and Renovation of Facilities

We recommend the following repairs and renovations in order of priority:

REPAIRS:                                                      RENOVATIONS:

1.      Repair all water leaks                                             Renovate "The Helm"/Kitchen

2.      Repair sanctuary foundation and roof                      Renovate Fellowship Hall

3.      Replace fellowship hall air conditioning                    Renovate office suite

4.      Upgrade video projection in sanctuary                     Renovate education wings

5.      Replace upstairs air conditioning units                      Expansion of worship facility

6.      Repaint/re-wallpaper/re-floor parsonage kitchen      Addition of a “cry room”

and utility area

Ø  We also recommend these projects be done as money becomes available.

Ø  Lastly, we recommend that we immediately enter a fund-raising project for these repairs and renovations.
